Dr. Cyril H. Wecht, M.D., J.D., is a forensic Pathologist, attorney and medical-legal consultant. Dr. Wecht is certified by the American Board of Pathology in anatomic, clinical, and forensic pathology, and is also a Fellow of the College of American Pathologists and the American Society of Clinical Pathologists. Dr. Wecht is a Clinical Professor at the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine, and Graduate School of Public Health, and, holds positions as an Adjunct Professor at the Duquesne University School of Law, School of Pharmacy, and School of Health Sciences. He's the Chairman of the Advisory Board of the Cyril H. Wecht Institute of Forensic Science and Law, at Duquesne University and Distinguished Professor of Pathology at Carlow University. He has served as President of the American College of Legal Medicine, the American Academy of Forensic Sciences, and served as Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the American Board of Legal Medicine and the American College of Legal Medicine Foundation. The author of more than 640 professional publications, Dr. Wecht is also an editorial board member of 10 national and international medical-legal and forensic scientific publications; editor of the five-volume set, “Forensic Sciences” (Matthew Bender); co-editor of the two and three-volume sets, “Handling Soft Tissue Injury Cases” and “Preparing and Winning, Medical Negligence Cases” (both published by Michie). He served as County Commissioner and, for 20 years, Allegheny County Coroner & Medical Examiner for metropolitan Pittsburgh. The building in which he worked is now named for him. He continues to testify in criminal and civil trials around the world, as both a prosecution and defense expert witness. Dr. Wecht has personally performed more than 21,000 autopsies and has supervised, reviewed or has been consulted on approximately 41,000 additional postmortem examinations. He frequently appears on national television and radio programs discussing various medicolegal and forensic scientific issues. Some of his high profile cases and commentaries include: the assassinations of President John F. Kennedy, Senator Robert F. Kennedy, and the Reverend Martin Luther King; the deaths of Elvis Presley and Tammy Wynette; the O.J. Simpson double slayings; Sharon Tate; The Symbionese Liberation Army shootout; The Legionnaires’ Disease panic; Dr. Herman Tarnower; the Branch Davidian incident; Vincent Foster; and the JonBenét Ramsey and Chandra Levy murders. Wecht's expertise has also been utilized in high-profile cases involving Whitney Houston, Brittany Murphy, Phil Spector, Mary Jo Kopechne, Sunny von Bulow, Amador Diallo, Jean Harris, Lacey Peterson and many others.
